Intestinal flora in dogs - small tenants with a big effect

We all know that the skin, mouth and intestines of our pets are by no means sterile. But did you know that there are actually ten times more microbes living in and on your four-legged friend's body than your pet has cells? Your dog carries many trillions of bacteria, viruses, yeast and other germs with him every day (humans are thought to carry about 100 trillion germs totaling about 1 kg!)

But by no means are these housemates a burden - in fact, both pets and microorganisms benefit from this special living arrangement. The microbes help their four-legged friends with some tasks, and in return provide them with living space and nutrients. Of particular importance is the abundance of microorganisms in the gut - also known as the gut flora or gut microbiome. Not only do they help our pets with digestion, but they also seem to have a major impact on many other important areas such as gut health, the immune system and even the development of the nervous system.

What do gut bacteria actually do and what effect do they have?

Although the gut flora is composed of many different types of bacteria such as viruses, fungi and protozoa, the function and influence of gut bacteria is most widely recognised. As already mentioned, they play an important role in the utilization of food: they help our dogs and cats digest, for example, fibre and complex carbohydrates, provide additional nutrients and produce important substances such as vitamins and short-chain fatty acids (an essential source of energy for intestinal cells). The gut bacteria thus ensure optimal use of food and even provide some additional nutrients.

At the same time, the gut flora makes a decisive contribution to intestinal health. Among other things, it supports the formation of a protective mucus layer in the digestive tract, strengthens the intestinal barrier and prevents colonisation by pathogenic organisms. In addition, intestinal bacteria also contribute to the regulation of the immune system in the gut so that a healthy balance is achieved between vigilance against invaders and tolerance of "good" lodgers. This prevents an excessive inflammatory response in the gut for no good reason. In very young animals in particular, however, the influence of the gut flora seems to go beyond the local action in the gut: there are early indications that the gut flora could influence, among other things, the development of the immune system and the brain over a period of time.

When should a dog's intestines be reorganized?
Between 6 and 8 months: this is the recommended time for targeted bowel rehabilitation, as the microbiome is then more stable and appropriate measures have a more lasting effect. 

Earlier intestinal rehabilitation is possible in

• Antibiotic treatment or medication in the first months of life
• Digestive problems such as diarrhea, flatulence or food intolerance.
• Weaned puppies from difficult housing conditions, such as stress or poor nutrition
• Parasite infestation (e.g. giardia), after veterinary clearance

Why is there sugar in EM Vital?
Sugar cane molasses is rich in natural sugars, minerals and trace elements. These ingredients provide ideal conditions for the growth of the beneficial microorganisms (e.g. lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, photosynthetic bacteria) contained in EM products. Without this energy source, microbes could not multiply sufficiently.

  Glossy chamomile is a traditionally used mushroom that is valued for its diverse constituents such as polysaccharides, triterpenes and antioxidants. Ling Zhi, also known as the "mushroom of immortality", is valued for its positive properties in terms of well-being and vitality.

   

• Black cumin seeds
  Black cumin seeds are small, nutrient-rich seeds that are rich in essential oils, valuable fatty acids and antioxidants. They are used in a variety of products and are especially valued for their natural composition.

   

• Grape seeds (OPC)
  Grape seeds are rich in natural ingredients such as OPCs (oligomeric proanthocyanidins), vitamins and essential fatty acids. They are valued for their versatile properties and valuable composition.

• Stir the product before opening, do not shake.
