The skin of the dog - The largest organ with many functions

The skin is the largest organ in the dog's body and performs a number of vital functions. As an external protective barrier, it protects the body from mechanical, thermal and chemical influences as well as from the penetration of microorganisms. It also plays a central role in thermoregulation: the body temperature is kept at a constant level by fine regulation of the blood circulation, through the sweat glands - especially on the paws - and with the help of the coat. The skin is also a highly specialised sensory organ, equipped with numerous nerve endings that respond to stimuli such as pressure, pain, touch and temperature. Last but not least, it is also part of the immune system - thanks to antimicrobial lipids and specialized immune cells in the top layer of the skin (epidermis), it actively helps protect the body from pathogens.

Interesting detail: the dog's skin produces oils that keep the coat supple and protect it from the weather. It is also interspersed with a large number of hair follicles from which grow the hair that forms the characteristic dog coat. A truly versatile helper!

How is dog skin different from human skin?
Dog skin is significantly thinner than human skin - on average it has about 3 to 5 cell layers of epidermis (10 to 15 in humans). Its thickness varies depending on:

• Breed: e.g. it is thinner in vipettes, thicker in scarpees.
• Age: older dogs often have drier and more sensitive skin.
• Coat type: thick undercoat protects better but requires different care.

How should I apply the product and when does it start to work?
It is best to start feeding your dog in the spring. The product is suitable as a long-term feed supplement or as a treatment.

With regular use, a change can occur after approximately 3-4 weeks.

Is the product also suitable for cats?
Due to the black cumin oil content, the product is not suitable for cats.

  is a natural plant that has long been valued in traditional naturopathy. It is said to strengthen the body's defenses and soothe skin irritations. It is also often used to support the skin barrier and in connection with insect bites.

  The plant contains a number of natural phytochemicals, including polyphenols and flavonoids, which are said to have antioxidant effects.

   

• Ascophyllum nodosum
  also known as knotweed, is a brown algae found mainly in the cold waters of the North Atlantic. It is characterised by its high content of natural minerals and trace elements. Thanks to this composition, the algae has a wide range of uses - for example in agriculture, industry and nutrition. It is particularly valued for its natural iodine content, its fibre content (e.g. alginates) and its ability to bind and store nutrients.

   

• Black cumin oil
  is an essential oil that naturally contains omega-3 fatty acids, amino acids, thymoquinone and various vitamins and minerals.
  It has long been valued in traditional use - particularly in relation to gastrointestinal complaints, allergic reactions, processes associated with inflammation and for general well-being.
