L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine - perfectly combined with choline: In addition to the proven L-carnitine as bioactive L-carnitine tartrate, Pro Carnitin by TISSO also contains the neuroactive acetyl-L-carnitine. The acetylated form can cross the blood-brain barrier and is therefore considered the "L-carnitine of the brain". In addition, the contained choline ensures an improved transport of the L-carnitine into the cells. 

What is L-Carnitine and what is it good for?

L-carnitine is formed from the two essential amino acids  L-methionine and L-lysine. However, the body does not cover 90 percent of its daily carnitine requirement from its own synthesis, but from food. In the body, it serves as a means of transport for the long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria, the site of fat burning, where vital energy is obtained from the fats.

Important organs, such as the heart, derive their energy needs predominantly from fats. The heart, together with the skeletal muscles, stores more than 95 percent of the body's carnitine.

L-carnitine deficiency: How does it develop?

Carnitine is mainly found in animal foods such as red meat. Plant foods, on the other hand, contain only very small amounts. A deficiency can therefore occur if there is too little meat and too few other animal products on the menu.

The body covers only 10 percent of its daily requirements through its own L-carnitine synthesis. For this, it needs the two essential amino acids L-methionine and L-lysine as well as the cofactors vitamin C, vitamin B3, vitamin B6 and iron in sufficient quantities.

In special life situations, such as during competitive sports, diets or during pregnancy and breastfeeding, there may also be an increased need for L-carnitine and thus a deficiency.

Choline: Important helper in energy metabolism

Our body needs choline to build phospholipids. These compounds are elementary components of our cells - especially in the cell membrane as well as the membrane of most cell organelles, such as the mitochondria, where vital energy is obtained. Therefore, choline is also an important substance for fat metabolism.  

In addition, choline ensures that carnitine is transported into the cells, thus boosting energy production from fatty acids. Although the body can produce choline itself, the amount is not sufficient to completely cover the demand. That is why we have combined it directly with carnitine in our product.  

L-carnitine for weight loss: Is it possible?

Since L-carnitine provides fatty acids for energy production and promotes the build-up of muscle mass, it can have a positive influence on weight reduction at the same time. Muscles consume a lot of energy and therefore also burn a lot of fat.

Of course, a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, sufficient fluid intake and adequate exercise is fundamentally important to lose weight in the long term.
