Pro Jod
The natural source of iodine from seaweed: Pro Jod provides valuable natural iodine from North Atlantic knotted wrack seaweed (Seagreens® Ascophyllum nodosum) and high-quality astaxanthin from the blood rain algae Haematococcus pluvialis.
Iodine – The trace element from the sea
Iodine is a vital trace element and a building block of the thyroid hormones that regulate a variety of processes in the body. It is important for the body’s own energy metabolism, cognitive performance, the function of the nervous system, the maintenance of healthy skin, and normal growth in children. The best sources come from the sea: saltwater fish, seafood – and algae in particular.
All algae raw materials used in Pro Jod undergo strict quality and contaminant controls.
The perfect algae duo: knotted wrack and blood rain algae
Natural iodine from North Atlantic knotted wrack
In nature, iodine is found in larger quantities almost only in the sea. Marine algae are the richest source: they can accumulate the iodine compounds dissolved in seawater in high concentrations in their cells. The iodine in Pro Jod by TISSO comes from the knotted wrack seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum, a brown algae species common in the North Atlantic that grows in rocky coastal areas and can grow up to several meters long.
Our raw material Seagreens® Ascophyllum nodosum (knotted wrack seaweed) is harvested in controlled and ecologically sustainable wild collection and is certified according to the Nutritious Food Seaweed Standard.
High-quality astaxanthin from the blood rain algae
The blood rain algae (Haematococcus pluvialis) is one of the most important natural sources of astaxanthin – a carotenoid responsible for the red hue of crustaceans that feed on these algae. With the help of astaxanthin, Haematococcus pluvialis can survive even in extremely adverse conditions. When there is a lack of water, nutrients or overly intense sun rays, the algae that are actually green switch off their photosynthesis and go into resting mode. They produce large amounts of astaxanthin in order to protect themselves from UV light and oxidation.
The Astaxanthin in Pro Jod by TISSO is protected against external influences (oxidation) by micro-encapsulation and is, therefore, particularly stable.
Fact sheet - Iodine
Iodine is known primarily as a trace element of the thyroid gland. It is needed as a building block for the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4, with four iodine atoms) and triiodothyronine (T3, with three iodine atoms). The thyroid hormones are involved in the control of numerous metabolic processes and are important for growth and brain development, among other things. In addition to the thyroid gland, other organs also depend on iodine.
Iodine in food
Iodine is an essential trace element that the human organism must absorb through food. Iodine compounds are found primarily in the sea, while European soils – and thus also cereals, fruits and vegetables – are comparatively low in iodine. By far the most iodine-rich foods are seaweed, followed by sea fish and seafood. In Germany, iodized table salt in particular is an important source of iodine. Milk, dairy products and eggs also contribute to a lesser extent to the iodine supply. Their iodine content has increased in recent years, mainly due to iodine fortification of livestock feed.

- RECOMMENDED INTAKE:Please take 1 capsule daily with sufficient liquid. Best taken with a meal. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake.
- Notes: Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a balanced and varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Store in a cool, dry place away from light. Keep out of the reach of children. Please leave the desiccant packets in the cans until the product has been used up. They contain food-grade silica (silicon dioxide) and protect the product by absorbing moisture that enters the can each time it is opened. This keeps the product dry.
- Special notes: Astaxanthin-rich oleoresin from the alga Haematococcus pluvialis is not suitable for infants and young children under 3 years of age. The maximum daily intake of astaxanthin should not exceed 8 mg.
