Why sweet & red? Good to know! Isolated amino acids, the basic building blocks of collagen, as we inevitably have to use in a vegan collagen version, always taste extremely bitter and are unpalatable. To avoid this, we have opted for a natural raspberry flavour, the sweetness from stevia and the colouring from beetroot to offer you a delicious and vegan collagen powder.

Vegan alternative to collagen: study proves effect

One third of collagen consists of glycine, which the body can produce itself on the one hand and absorb from food on the other. However, the latter is only insufficient to cover the basic requirement and form enough collagen. The additional intake of collagen through a dietary supplement can therefore be particularly useful for maintaining skin firmness and elasticity as well as for reducing and preventing wrinkles.

Pro Collagen Vegan contains the vegan type 1 collagen alternative VeCollal®, a vegan collagen that was the first to be investigated in human studies. The amino acids it contains are similar to type 1 collagen in the human body. In a study*, VeCollal® already achieved 33% fewer wrinkles within eight weeks and was just as effective as fish collagen and significantly more effective than placebo in other parameters. We have therefore used exactly the same amount of VeCollal® in our Pro Collagen Vegan as in the study in question.

What is collagen and what is collagen good for?

Collagen is a protein that occurs in the body as an important component of skin, bones, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. It forms a kind of scaffold that holds tissue together and provides stability. Collagen makes up around a third of the total amount of protein in the human body and consists of various amino acids, including glycine and proline. It is crucial for structure and elasticity – especially of the skin, where it is the main protein. Collagen supports skin firmness, elasticity and moisture retention, which makes it particularly interesting with regard to skin ageing. Studies show that supplementing with collagen powder reduces wrinkles and improves skin firmness, among other things.

In bones and joints, collagen strengthens the tissue and promotes mobility, while it can prevent injuries. Collagen also contributes to regeneration, e.g. after sport, and can be supplemented with special preparations, such as the collagen powder mentioned above, to compensate for the natural breakdown of collagen.

Collagen powder for youthful skin 

Between the ages of thirty and seventy, we lose over 50 % of our skin collagen, which results in natural skin ageing. However, this is influenced by other internal and external (environmental) factors: internal influences include the aforementioned natural ageing process, hormonal changes, psychological stress and silent inflammation in the body. External factors include UV rays, lack of sleep, environmental pollution, smoking and an unhealthy diet. These internal and external factors usually lead to oxidative stress, i.e. promote the formation of free radicals and contribute to the breakdown of collagen in the skin and the inhibition of the body's own collagen synthesis. Due to the reduced collagen in the body, skin elasticity, hydration and thickness decrease. The formation of wrinkles and thus skin ageing is promoted.
