Omega-3 fatty acids from microalgae - for heart, brain & eyesight
The microalgae Schizochytrium sp. is a marine microalgae that is an excellent source of these fatty acids for the human organism due to its high lipid production, particularly the polyunsaturated fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). It is widely distributed in its natural habitat in marine environments - primarily in coastal and plankton-rich areas. For use in food supplements, it is cultivated and fermented in appropriate facilities on land.
The essential fatty acids from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. in the form of algae oil are particularly suitable for vegans and vegetarians who do not want to consume the valuable omega-3 fatty acids through food or fish oil. The fatty acids DHA and EPA contribute with a daily intake of 250 mg to healthy heart function. In addition, 250 mg of DHA per day ensures healthy brain function and vision. This is what makes omega-3 fatty acids – in an appropriately adjusted dosage – particularly important for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Direct extraction of omega-3 fatty acids without detours
Non-vegan products that provide essential omega-3 fatty acids in food supplements are usually derived from fish oils. For the nutritional supplementation of vegans and vegetarians, in our Pro Omega Vegan we bypass the food chain around the fish, which originally eat the omega-3-rich phytoplankton (various algae), and obtain the valuable fatty acids sustainably and directly from the algae oil. This is specially cultivated in France, in facilities on land, and tested for harmful substances and contamination.
Our Pro Omega Vegan in capsule form is also a practical alternative to liquid fish oil products for traveling, as it does not need to be stored in the refrigerator. However, we recommend a daily dosage of at least 1,800 mg EPA and DHA, which corresponds to five capsules. However, three capsules per day are sufficient to maintain omega-3 levels in the short term, for example when on vacation. The capsules themselves are made from tapioca starch, which many people know from healthy cooking. They also contain no carrageenan.
